Fusion, combining past practices with a future mindset. A step up from Back-to-the-Basics, we cannot simply focus on what we have done in the past. Rather, we must focus on taking those past experiences and executing them in a modern, innovative fashion. By fusing these two together, we create a new foundation for our industry.

    Greg Roth

Embracing the Challenge Mindset: How to take risks, forge a new path, and be more creative

Greg Roth is a keynote speaker, creative consultant, and artist. His practice, The Idea Enthusiast LLC, teaches the art of experimentation, team creativity, and the science of small habits over big goals. As a creative professional, his career includes experience in over 100 jobs, big and small, as a journalist, campaign director, speechwriter, videographer for a PGA professional, show producer, performer, crayon maker, and mascot. He has chronicled over 200 stories of the “challenge mindset” in his weekly newsletter.

Greg's keynote explores how organizations get the best work out of their people when there is a “culture of innovation.” But what does that mean exactly and how does that look every single day? To consistently improve our work, we need to encourage fresh thinking, support new ideas, develop the ability to critique and improve past experiences collaboratively, and “negotiate” past roadblocks to solutions and results. The Challenge Mindset is an approach to solving problems that welcomes experimentation and a bias for action. This fun, inspirational talk shares stories, quotes, and wisdom from work and life that demonstrate how “going small” can lead to big breakthroughs and transformations.

Greg's Media training workshop, Own the Narrative: Lessons in storytelling though the media, focuses on how there is no one “right” way to communicate your message to a reporter. Instead, preparation and the art of narrative can help you shape a message that a reporter will take seriously, and an audience will find compelling. This fast-paced session will make you a better spokesperson and advocate, teaching you the essentials of developing a core message, understanding both sides of an issue to your own benefit, and commanding the interview in any context.

    Tara Lea

    Introduction & Welcome

Tara Lea is the Executive Director of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce in beautiful Fremont, Nebraska, a town of 25,000 people and a Chamber with nearly 600 members. Tara began her career in the Chamber industry in 2012 as the President of the Ralston Area Chamber of Commerce, a smaller Chamber in Nebraska with 275 members. Tara’s experience with both a small and medium sized Chamber has given her the opportunity to experience the highs and lows (of course many more highs than lows) that a number of her colleagues may deal with on a daily bases.

Tara is a people person and a curious learner who happily takes on new challenges including ways to get volunteers excited to donate their time to Chamber efforts. Since taking on her current role almost two years ago she has increased the volunteerism in her Chamber from around 30 people to now over 3,000! Okay, that is a lie but sounded really awesome and probably makes you want to join in on her session! In all honesty time is money and a precious treasure to so many of our members. Join Tara for a round table discussion as we brainstorm best practices to encourage our members to each give us just a little more of their beloved time to help take all of our Chambers to the next level!!
