    Job Description
    South Sioux City Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism (“the Chamber”) promotes economic growth and prosperity for business and its members through education and engagement while empowering leaders to build a community where business can thrive, and residents are proud to live. The Chamber’s purpose is to advance the commercial, industrial, agricultural, civic, educational and general interest of the South Sioux City trade area with the mission of increasing quality of life and employment in the greater Siouxland Area. The organization provides a variety of programs and services for members including networking and special events, professional development opportunities, business resources, key communications, business advocacy, and visibility within the Siouxland region.   In addition to traditional chamber activities, the organization holds a contract with Dakota County to manage the Convention & Visitors Bureau.
     
    The Chamber has a 12-member volunteer Board of Directors and $400K budget generated through membership investment, hotel and motel tax and revenues from special events and annual programs.  With nearly 400 members, the Chamber serves as the “community connector” among its membership and constituents and continues to be a progressive force in the region.  The Chamber is well-respected in the community and members appreciate that its leadership and staff value getting to know members and their unique needs.  www.southsiouxchamber.org
     
    The President reports to the Chamber’s Board of Directors and works closely with the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau Advisory Committee of the Board.  He/She serves as the top staff executive of the organization and supervises the Director of Membership, Marketing and Tourism along with occasional Interns.  This leader is charged with the responsibility for the complete operation of the Chamber as it involves staff, program, planning, operations, and finance.  Important interactions and relationships include:
    executives and employees of Chamber member organizations; elected and appointed municipal and county officials; other regional organizations involved in economic and community development activities; other business, nonprofit and private sector partnership organizations within the Siouxland MSA; education officials; members of the media; and the public at large.
     
    The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of accomplishment in levels of increasingly responsible positions within a chamber, economic development or professional association environment. This executive may come from any of a variety of backgrounds, e.g.: the top executive of a progressive and successful comparably sized chamber of commerce, economic development, or related membership-based organization; senior leadership experience at a larger like enterprise as noted above.  Board interaction and experience leading large numbers of volunteers is strongly desired.
     
    A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred; an advanced degree in business, law or related field is considered a plus. Graduate of the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management, Certified Chamber Executive or Certified Association Executive designation is desirable.
