Description of FiveSouth, a downtown development initiative

Two key issues are impacting the ability of communities to grow:  talent attraction and retention and childcare.  While everyone talks about the issue, taking action with solutions can be elusive.  In Bismarck-Mandan, North Dakota, the business community decided to approach the issues with private sector vision and principals.  FiveSouth is a downtown development in downtown Bismarck intended to attract and retain young professionals.  This game changer project will create millennial housing; develop a full service hotel; a premier office space all combined with retail offerings.  To address childcare, the business community created a cooperative anchored by some of the communities biggest businesses.  This new 240 child facility will offer state of the art daycare provided by the local YMCA.  This innovative idea could assist your community in addressing this important issue.
