Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce

Thane Barnier wrote his first computer program at age 11 on a Texas Instruments TI-99 4A and built his first PC from scratch as a gift for his High School Graduation.  In 1996 he moved to Sioux Falls, SD to work for Gateway 2000 as a portable computer specialist.  While at Gateway he turned his web design hobby into a new career, and in 1998 he began as a web application developer for Dakota Telecommunications Group in Sioux Falls.  In 2000, Thane was hired by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce to create and manage the web presence for the Chamber, as well as the Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Sioux Falls Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Forward Sioux Falls.  In 2002 he officially took on the role of IT support, received his first Microsoft Professional Certifications and guided the organizations through a transition from Novell to a full Microsoft based network.  In the last four years the focus of his work has been network security and disaster recovery.  He has received security training from Cisco, CompTIA and Microsoft, and recently completed the training to become a Certified Ethical Hacker.  His approach to network security is hands-on and practical, and believes that vigilance and knowledge of threats are the cornerstone of any good network security plan.
